Mononucleosis is known as the ?Kissing Disease Mono.? However, the kissing disease mono is definitely not as funny as the name implies. Some rear symptoms of mononucleosis may include cough, stiff neck, nosebleed, shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat.

850,000 new Android devices now activated each day, 450,000 apps in the Android Market
Andy Rubin has just laid some Android numbers out for everyone as only he can. The last time we heard numbers from Google was on Q4 2011 conference call where it was announced that 700,000 Android activations were happening daily and today, that number has pushed to 850,000.
For those of you keeping track, that's around a 250% growth in numbers year-on-year. Apps have also been continually on the rise, back during Mobile World Congress last year Google announced there was 150,000 apps in Android Market and now that number sits at about 450,000 with around 1 billion downloads per month.
The point? The Google ecosystem is doing great. It's constantly growing and with over 800 Android devices launched to-date, it's not showing any signs of slowing down any time soon.

US rules to prevent car back-over deaths delayed
WASHINGTON (AP) ? U.S. rules aimed at preventing drivers from backing over children and others by requiring automakers to include rearview cameras on many new vehicles will be delayed until the end of this year, transportation officials said Tuesday.
In a letter to lawmakers, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration needs more time for "study and data analysis."
The agency proposed more than a year ago that automakers include rear-mounted video cameras with in-vehicle display on all cars and light trucks by the 2014 model year.
Nearly 300 people are killed and 18,000 injured each year because of back-over accidents, according to NHTSA data. Many occur in driveways and parking lots. Nearly half the deaths involve children under age 5. The elderly also are frequent victims.
Lobbyists for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, an industry trade association, met with White House officials in December about the proposed rules. They urged the administration to permit manufacturers the option of including expanded mirrors on vehicles rather than cameras, saying the estimated cost to the industry of requiring cameras at $2.7 billion annually.
Gloria Bergquist, vice president of the alliance, noted that the cameras already are standard equipment in many vehicle models or offered as options for which car buyers pay extra.
Under a 2008 law, the government was required to issue final rules to address back-over accidents by Feb. 28, 2011. LaHood had extended that deadline twice already.

Tumblr?has been known to struggle with an overwhelming amount of content which promotes or glorifies many forms of self-harm including ? though unfortunately not limited to???eating disorders, self-mutilation and even suicide. Now the micro-blogging service's staff has made the decision to fight this phenomenon by officially prohibiting blogs "that actively promote self-harm."?
An announcement on the official Tumblr staff blog explains that?the decision to revise the service's content policy is not being taken lightly as its staff is "deeply committed to supporting and defending [its] users? freedom of speech."?But as a company, those folks have decided that certain and specific types of content ? including spam and identity theft????"aren't welcome on Tumblr."
While Tumblr's staff is asking for input from its community regarding its policy change, the language of the relevant content policy addition appears to already be very clear. A distinction is made between content which actively promotes or glorifies self-harm and something such as an off-hand declaration that someone feels so embarrassed she could just die or similar:
Don?t post content that actively promotes or glorifies self-injury or self-harm. This includes content that urges or encourages readers to cut or mutilate themselves; embrace anorexia, bulimia, or other eating disorders; or commit suicide rather than, e.g., seek counseling or treatment for depression or other disorders. Online dialogue about these acts and conditions is incredibly important; this prohibition is intended to reach only those blogs that cross the line into active promotion or glorification. For example, joking that you need to starve yourself after Thanksgiving or that you wanted to kill yourself after a humiliating date is fine, but recommending techniques for self-starvation or self-mutilation is not.
In addition to implementing this new policy next week ??after a grace period which allows affected blogs to conform to the changes ? Tumblr will also?begin showing "public service announcements" whenever a user searches for keywords which are frequently associated with self-harm-promoting blogs. Such a message may look like this:
Eating disorders can cause serious health problems, and at their most severe can even be life-threatening. Please contact the [resource organization] at [helpline number] or [website].
Tumblr isn't the only service which is making changes to its policies in order to suppress content deemed inappropriate. Popular link-sharing website Reddit has recently?banned all forums ??dubbed "subreddits" ??which focused on the "sexualization of children."
Like Tumblr's staff, Reddit's moderators and administrators appeared to struggle with the decision to enact this content policy.?As explained in the post which announced the change,?the site's staff is "adamant about not limiting the ability to use the Reddit platform even when [it does] not [itself] agree with or condone a specific use."
But as msnbc.com's own Helen Popkin points out, Reddit ??like Tumblr ??is ?a private business and as such it is "under no burden to provide a venue for free speech" or facilitate certain types of content.

TAMPA, Florida (AP) -Derek Jeter says he has no plans to follow his long-time New York Yankees teammates Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte into retirement - yet.
"If I didn't think I was capable of playing at a high level then I would go home," Jeter said Friday, reporting day for New York Yankees position players. "If I wasn't enjoying myself, enjoying the competition, then it would be time to go home."
"Right now I think I'm capable and enjoying myself," he added. "I have a lot of confidence. If that starts to waver, then I wouldn't do it."
The Yankees' shortstop is getting started on his 18th big league season and he could very well be the last member of the Yankees' Core Four after this year.
This winter, Posada joined Pettitte in retirement, while Mariano Rivera strongly hinted this week that 2012 will be his final year.
Jeter said "it's awkward" not having some of his long-time teammates around.
"All of us are like brothers because we've had so many experiences together," Jeter said on Friday, which was . "It is kind of weird when you're used to playing with someone. I've been playing with these guys since I've been 18-years old. But you have to move, you have no choice."
Jeter will turn 38 on June 26.
"Seeing his friends go through it, maybe the conversions he had with an Andy or had with a Jorge, he understands: `You know what? At some point it's going to come (to an end),"' Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "If Derek's in uniform I expect him to be productive, that's kind of the bottom line. Now, do I expect him to play 160 games? Probably not."
Jeter will get breaks from shortstop as the designated hitter.
"He'll play a lot," Girardi said.
Jeter started last season using a no-stride batting stance after hitting just .270 in 2010. He went back to his old technique while rehabbing a right calf injury last June.
The results were dramatic, with his batting average increasing from .260 to .297 after returning from the injury on July 4 and getting his 3,000th hit on July 9.
"A blessing in disguise," Jeter said. "I am happy with how things finished up from a personal standpoint, but it starts all over again this year. So I just have to continue to do the things I was doing last year."

One of the attractions of atomtronics is that the properties of electrons moving through solid state materials can often be mimicked using atoms operating under highly controlled circumstances. Why not just study electrons directly? Because in atomtronics the forces among the atoms can be controlled; you can't do that as well with electrons in solids. That is, atoms can be induced to interact via a force that can be dialed up or down, exploiting the large magnetic dipole moment of some atoms, such as dysprosium-161.
Clark will describe theoretical work carried out with colleagues at George Mason University, the University of Hamburg, Germany and the University of California, Riverside. Together they have studied what happens when ultracold highly magnetic atoms are held in an optical lattice and subjected to an external magnetic field, which can be steered in various directions. This field tugs on the atom-sized magnets and, along with the direction of the field itself, leave the atoms standing upright or pulled over on their sides at various inclinations described in the figure by the angles phi and theta. In this way, the researcher can tune the interaction---force on demand.
The atoms don't just stay put as they are being jerked around. They disport themselves into patterns. Each pattern can be considered a different phase of atomtronic matter. And just as water molecules can exist in phases---ice, water, steam---depending on how a joystick that controls temperature and pressure is deployed, so the magnetic atoms sort themselves into numerous phases depending on the magnetic joystick controlling the strength and orientation of the applied magnetic field.
The atom patterns can be mapped on a phase diagram where the x and y axis describe various values of the joystick orientation. One phase is labeled cb-CDW (the turquoise part), meaning that the atoms in the optical lattice come into a checkerboard pattern (cb) as electrons do in a solid orient themselves via a so-called "charge density wave" (CDW), in analogy with a collective state of electrons in metals that is being explored as an alternative vehicle for data encoding . In the small drawing to the left the red dots represent a greater chance that an atom will be in that spot while blue dots represent a lesser chance that an atom will be there.
Another phase (the orange part) consists of atoms preferentially patterned in stripes (st). A third phase is labeled BCS. Here, analogous to the pairs of electrons in superconductors (as described by the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory), atoms weakly pair up via long-range forces across several atomic spacings.
Two other phases seen in the study were totally unexpected. These consist of pairs---an atom yoked with a neighboring vacancy---distributing themselves in a checkerboard or striped pattern. In other words, if such a pair finds itself at one place in the lattice, another pair might be more or less likely to be in a neighboring double slot. The authors call this new phase a "bond-order solid" (BOS) since in a sense the bonds between the atom-vacancy couplets seem to be forming the patterns rather than the atoms themselves. Bond-order phases have been conjectured previously in idealized one-dimensional models, but this is the first report of their presence in a realizable physical system.
These phases are associated with the presence of strong long-range dipole interactions between ultracold atoms, a feature that does not exist for electrons in solids or in the first generation of ultracold atomic and molecular systems. Recent experimental developments show prospects for implementing ultracold dipole fermion systems in the laboratory.
Satyan Bhongale (George Mason University), the lead author of this work, says, "As physicists we like to classify states of matter. Low-temperature electronic systems are very complicated and hard to control or observe in detail. Atomtronic systems are subject to exquisite control and characterization, providing direct access and a clear insight into novel phases of matter.

And just as water molecules can exist in phases---ice, water, steam---depending on how a joystick that controls temperature and pressure is deployed, so the magnetic atoms sort themselves into numerous phases depending on the magnetic joystick controlling the strength and orientation of the applied magnetic field.
The atom patterns can be mapped on a phase diagram where the x and y axis describe various values of the joystick orientation. One phase is labeled cb-CDW (the turquoise part), meaning that the atoms in the optical lattice come into a checkerboard pattern (cb) as electrons do in a solid orient themselves via a so-called "charge density wave" (CDW), in analogy with a collective state of electrons in metals that is being explored as an alternative vehicle for data encoding . In the small drawing to the left the red dots represent a greater chance that an atom will be in that spot while blue dots represent a lesser chance that an atom will be there.
Another phase (the orange part) consists of atoms preferentially patterned in stripes (st). A third phase is labeled BCS. Here, analogous to the pairs of electrons in superconductors (as described by the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory), atoms weakly pair up via long-range forces across several atomic spacings.
Two other phases seen in the study were totally unexpected. These consist of pairs---an atom yoked with a neighboring vacancy---distributing themselves in a checkerboard or striped pattern. In other words, if such a pair finds itself at one place in the lattice, another pair might be more or less likely to be in a neighboring double slot. The authors call this new phase a "bond-order solid" (BOS) since in a sense the bonds between the atom-vacancy couplets seem to be forming the patterns rather than the atoms themselves. Bond-order phases have been conjectured previously in idealized one-dimensional models, but this is the first report of their presence in a realizable physical system.
These phases are associated with the presence of strong long-range dipole interactions between ultracold atoms, a feature that does not exist for electrons in solids or in the first generation of ultracold atomic and molecular systems. Recent experimental developments show prospects for implementing ultracold dipole fermion systems in the laboratory.
Satyan Bhongale (George Mason University), the lead author of this work, says, "As physicists we like to classify states of matter. Low-temperature electronic systems are very complicated and hard to control or observe in detail. Atomtronic systems are subject to exquisite control and characterization, providing direct access and a clear insight into novel phases of matter.
