Art Show at the Arts Barn

The Arts Barn Gallery in Gaithersburg, Md., which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, presents acrylic paintings by Donna Baron and Marlene Sapperstein and stone jewelry by Valerie Nelson. The exhibit is open to the public through Sept. 16 at the Arts Barn Gallery. The gallery is located at 311 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg. Hours for viewing are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. ? 5 p.m. and Saturday, 1:30 ? 5:30 p.m.

Donna Baron?s exhibit, called ?The Water Around Us? brings beautiful attention to creeks and rivers in the region. Baron has recently studied with Walter Bartman at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, Md.; Stephen Quiller in Colorado; and the late Ann Templeton. Baron now teaches classes in creative water media and landscape painting at Plaza Art in Rockville. To view Baron?s art visit www.donnabaron.com.

Marlene Sapperstein started painting more than 20 years ago. Nature, with a focus on water, inspires her art. Her landscape paintings are an interpretation of traditional art and use a variety of techniques with vibrant color and depth. To view her work, visit www.marlenesapperstein.com.

Valerie Nelson has been making jewelry for more than 15 years. Her work uses traditional fabrication techniques, such as forming with hand tools, sawing, and hard soldering sterling wire and sheet. Built from ?the ground up,? she cuts many of the stones she uses herself. They are fine jaspers and agates found here in the United States.
