If you prefer to play your xBox when your friends are online you normally might check your xBox every half hour or so until you find someone, but if you're an electronics hobbyist you can build an xBox Live traffic light that will automatically connect and let you know when your friends are playing.
New Zealand-based Arduino enthusiast Andrewf used an Arduino with an ethernet shield to check xBox Live every five minutes to see if any of his friends are online. If no friends are logged in the red light is triggered, if one friend a yellow light, and if multiple friends are online the green light is lit.
With this project you'll always be able to find a friend or two to play games with online without having to spend a few minutes booting your xBox manually.
